Home Care Consortium of Marin/Marin Center for Independent Living
Personal Assistant Registry
The Marin Center for Independent Living maintains a registry
of carefully selected personal assistants to enable persons with disabilities
and older adults to make independent living choices. Marin Center for
Independent Living is not the employer. Registry personal assistants are
employed by either a private family or individual or by the In Home Supportive
Services Public Authority of Marin.
Those personal assistants considered by the Marin
Center for Independent Living must, at a minimum, meet the criteria described
below. We reserve the right not to select applicants for listing on the
registry.
Selection Criteria

Ability to work independently without agency
supervision under direction of the consumer or other family member.
þ
Ability to communicate effectively with consumer
and/or family members.
þ
Application: All sections of the application,
including the Self-Evaluation, must be completed accurately. Misrepresentation
is grounds for exclusion from consideration.
þ
Identification: Picture ID must be current. A
working phone number must be provided.
þ
Eligibility to work: Proof of eligibility to work in
the United States.
þ
References: For a reference to be considered, the
caregiving experience must have taken place within the past two years. At
least two positions described must have lasted a minimum of 6 months.
Preference is given to assistants who have worked with consumers for longer
periods of time. Phone numbers for references and dates of employment must
be provided. Written references are accepted as additional evidence
only, but do not substitute for the two or more references we will call

Interview/Orientation: Applicants considered must have
a face-to–face interview and orientation with the Registry staff.
þ
Car insurance: If an applicant will drive during work
hours (shopping, errands or accompanying consumer to an appointment) in either
the consumer’s or the applicant’s car, applicant must have a valid California’s
driver’s license, a good driving record, and appropriate automobile liability
insurance.
