Q.
Who pays the taxes? Click here for
Who
is a domestic or household employer in California? Other
tax info
There are pay roll services that will pay the taxes
from your account for your employees. Your own bank may
have one. For example, PayCheck 1-800-322-7292 charges about
$50.00 a month per worker for two pay periods a month, and they will
handle all the paperwork for that fee. We are not endorsing the
payroll services PayCheck, but list them only as an example. We
strongly recommend that you check around, there are many payroll
services to be found and you may be able to find a better rate.
Q. What are the user fees to
subscribe to QuickMatch?.
A. There is not a fee for
accessing QuickMatch or using our services.
Donations
are always appreciated and will fund QuickMatch into the
future.
Q. Who is the employer of these
workers?
A. You are the employer, you
must pay their payroll tax unless you are receiving IHSS from the
county. If you are receiving IHSS, then the IHSS Public Authority
is the employer of record.
Q: What is IHSS and how do I
apply?
A. You may be eligible for
IHSS if you: Are a current recipient of Supplemental Security
Income/State Supplementary Payment (SSI/SSP); or You meet all the
eligibility criteria for SSI/SSP except that your income is in
excess of the SSI/SSP income levels; or You meet all the eligibility
criteria for SSI/SSP, including income, but do not receive SSI/SSP;
or You are a Medi-Cal recipient who meets SSI/SSP disability
criteria. Please call Marin County IHSS at
415-499-7118 TTY users please dial 7-1-1 from your TTY and ask the
operator to call 415-499-7118.
Q: Who sets the pay scale?
A: It runs $9.75 to $20.00 an
hour. The actual rate is between you and the worker, unless you
receive IHSS. IHSS workers belong to SEIU Local 250. Their union
and the IHSS Public Authority of Marin set the county rate, currently at
$9.75 and hour.
Q. Who is the IHSS Public
Authority?
A. They are the employer of
record for all IHSS workers. They also have they own pool of
workers. You can also try to find a worker from them by calling
415-499-1024. TTY users should call 7-1-1 and ask the operation to
call the number.
Q. What happens if my worker is
a no show?
A. Life happens while we are
busy making plans. Even the best worker can have something occur
where on the last minute they can not make it to work, and in a
worse case situation, can not even call in. You need a back up
plan. If you do not have a fill in attendant available and it is
after normal business hours, log on to the webpage, click on the
emergency list of workers and call one of them.
Q. Who pays the emergency
worker?
A. You do, and they my not be
willing to accept IHSS wages. In these cases, you may need to have
as much as $80 to $200 on hand depending on what you need. The rate
is set at $20.00 an hour for emergency workers, most want a minimum
of four hours.
Q. What if I only need two hours
of help?
A. You are the employer,
negotiate, tell them you can only pay $40.00 for two hours work, or
whatever your situation is.
Q. What are my other options?
A. You need to prepare for the
worst day. Make friends with other people who use workers too.
People often share workers with their friends in an crises.
Q. I don’t know where to meet
people.
A. We have a couple of
suggestions. Join a support group, Marin CIL can help you locate a
group to join. You can also sign-up for the
Consumer Email discussion group.
This email group will put you in contact with your peers.
Q. Who can I talk to for more
ideas?
A. Call Marin CIL or West Marin
Senior Services.
Q. What happens if I find
workers off the web and I do not follow the rule to report all
filled jobs within 5 workings days.
A. You could lose access to the
webpage of workers. We need more now than ever to show our funders
that their investment into Marin CIL results in improving the lives
of people with disabilities.
Q. Am I allowed to share the
list with another person with a disability?
A. The short answer is we can’t
stop you. And in an emergency, our rule is whatever works to get the
need met. But we ask that you consider the value of this free
service to you and that you understand that if we lose the ability
to show our funders that this webpage results in people finding
workers, we will lose the funding and you could lose access to this
webpage forever.
